One would be forgiven for thinking that a group which peaked ten years ago probably isn't all that good. However, when the peak is Joyride, it can easily be understood that it was a hard act to follow. While later efforts have proved almost as successful (especially 1994's Crash! Boom! Bang! and 2001's Room Service), nothing has yet managed to beat the thrashing guitars and catchy tunes of Joyride (1991). The singles are great, of course - Joyride, Fading Like A Flower (Every Time You Leave), (Do You Get) Excited? - but it is the other tracks which really carry this classy album: Keep On Knockin' On Every Door is as compelling as they come, with Perfect Day, the album's closing track, taking your breath away as Marie reaches every note pitch perfect - no mean feat given that this song ranges across three full octaves! This is, quite simply, a masterpiece, and nothing has yet come along to beat it, whether from Roxette or any other group. If you want the early 90s in a nutshell, look no further than Roxette's Joyride.

1. Harleys & Indians: a kinda weak song to start the album, but it's funny, it might grow on you quite well. 6/10
2. Crash! Boom! Bang!: probly my absolute fav Roxtune of all time. Marie's voice is so full of emotions, the instrumentation is perfect, the songwriting is excellent. An all-time classic for me. 10/10
3. Fireworks: a very catchy upbeat song, with lots of fun in the lyrics and great background vocals. I think it isn't weak to be a single, it's always been doing fine by me. 9/10
4. Run to You: a very romantic typical Roxette-ish song with strings arrangement and, again, Marie's incredible
singing (which is true throughout the album). 8/10
5. Sleeping in My Car: perhaps the heaviest rocker in Roxette history, constantly played on the radios. It blows you away, so powerful and rocking. Easy 10/10.
6. Vulnerable: nice song, but way too sappy for me. The strings sound good, though, and the whistling at the end is lovely. 6/10
7. First Girl on the Moon: very enjoyable little tune, Per and Marie's voice match perfectly, the harmonica adds a good folky feeling to it. 9/10
8. Place Your Love: one of my favs on this album, a wonderful acoustic piece with winds arrangement. 10/10
9. I Love the Sound of Crashing Guitars: good rocker tune, good guitars (well, the title speaks for itself) 8/10
10. What's She Like?: it's a kinda upbeat, but still painful and sad song. 7/10
11. Do You Wanna Go the Whole Way?: good upbeat song with incredibly catch strings, nice acoustic interlude by
Per. 9/10
12. Lies: a very fun song with some good ironic lyrics. 7/10
13. I'm Sorry: a typically '90s sounding ballad. It gets a lot of praise from other Roxfans, with my agreement. Roxette also recorded it on the album of their best ballads sung in Spanish (just to show how really great this song is). 9/10
14. Love Is All (Shine Your Light on Me): a soaring hymn to love, with some experimental features not so often used in popular music. Probly their longest song. 8/10
15. Go to Sleep: a good way to finish this great work of up to par pop-rock music. Beautiful ballad, can be taken as a lullaby as well. 9/10

Review by Jason Damas In the five years between Roxette's last album, Crash, Boom, Bang, and this, their "comeback" album, pop music had changed considerably. Crash, Boom, Bang failed, in part, because it was completely out of step with the times; in 1994 grunge, alternative, and rap ruled the charts, but Roxette always produced a relatively crisp and clean brand of pop/rock. In the five years since then, however, Brit-pop brought alternative rock back towards pop, electronica made dance music "cool" again, and bubblegum pop bands like the Spice Girls made unabashed pop fun again. Also, Per Gessle was fresh off from his very rock-oriented 1997 solo album. What resulted, then, was really rather ambitious. Have A Nice Day is an effort to encapsulate Roxette's trademark sound with Brit-pop and electronica, and, by gosh, it works. It's easily as good as any other Roxette album, save maybe only the stellar Joyride, and it shows that artistically the band is still on top. There's a good deal of emphasis on dance music here, but instead of the indistinguishable dance-pop of the band's early days, the beats seem to be borrowed straight from Fatboy Slim records. That, mixed with Gessle's gritty guitars, makes for a good deal of up-tempo rockers ("Crush on You," "7Twenty7," "Stars"). There are also some excellent pop songs, such as the single "Wish I Could Fly" and Gessle's unforgettable "You Can't Put Your Arms Around What's Already Gone," quite possibly the best song he's ever written. As is the case with any Roxette album, however, there are flaws, namely the presence of filler, mostly in the form of pace-destroying ballads. It's a small price to pay, however, for the return of one of the best mainstream pop bands in the past decade.

“Room Service”专辑延续昔日旧风，依然洋溢着无限激情，火爆的动感节奏与高亢动情的演唱交辉生映，全集开篇以具有与往日不同的电子合成旋律的“The Centre Of The Heart”开始，俨然具有Disco的风韵，一开口完全就是我们的老相识的Roxette，专辑歌曲多为急促快板的Roxette式的摇滚节奏，但也有象“Bring Me Down To My Knees”这样的慢板柔情歌曲，12首歌曲各具千秋，各自表达一种心境…十几年的黄金组合走过了灿烂辉煌的音乐历程，如今更显得老到成熟，音乐制作水准更是不同凡响。
If proof were needed that Roxette are the new ABBA, the lack of critical respect should be enough. Like Abba, Roxette is a masterful pop band (with just the right amount of kitsch in its armor) that routinely gets slagged off for lacking substance, whatever that may be. Room Service showcases a band at the top of its form with its feet firm on the pedal: this album is a case study in songcraft and pop smarts. With its na-na-na choruses and sparkly guitars, Room Service is also trademark Roxette, a mostly no-surprises package that divides its time between the soaring, emotive power ballads and the rife-with-hooks rock-dance stompers that the band pretty much took patents out on back in the '80s and '90s. This is a group that has gotten really good at what it is doing, without getting bored doing it. Result? Probably the best Roxette album since Joyride. Opening tracks "Real Sugar" and "The Centre of the Heart" with their now-rock, now-disco, always-pop attack are effortless up-tempo smashes that deliver an unstoppable one-two sucker punch. On the other hand, "Milk and Toast and Honey" and "Bringing Me Down to My Knees" are big-ticket slow-burners that are as good as adult contemporary gets. "Try (Just a Little Bit Harder)" burgles the "Just a little bit" refrain from Aretha Franklin's "Respect" and uses it to spike the sort of lush, half-pensive ballad that Roxette can toss off in its sleep by now. "You Make My Heart Go Pop" is a noisy, overproduced Top-Ten-here-we-come sparkler that'll zoom straight to the trash-magnet center of your brain and stick there for weeks on end. This album also shows a lyrically sharper Roxette, less eager than before to compromise the words for the hooks. Sure, they may occasionally slip into cliché and overt sentimentalism, but they're never less than tuneful. Both Per Gessle and Marie Frederiksson are in fine vocal form, especially Marie, who's equally proficient
whether she's doing elegiac laments or burning the house down. Room Service is an exciting, immediate, high-gloss pop gem that contains very little filler indeed. On it Roxette may not be making any great leaps forward, but when you're
in such a great place why bother moving?

Roxette's Ballad Hits demonstrates what it is that's made their band successful. It's a simple formula, but it works every time. After a quiet, exquisitely maudlin verse, Marie Fredriksson unleashes that shockingly big voice, the drums crash, huge guitars and keyboards attack and Roxette burst into another ludicrously memorable chorus. No one can match their jubilant revelling in the torment of love. From 1989 to 1991, they dominated the US charts with a string of super-dramatic hits. "Listen to Your Heart", "It Must Have Been Love", "Fading like a Flower", classics all, and they're all here, along with much else. For Roxette, ballads don't always follow the duo's own comic dictum--"Don't Bore Us, Get to the Chorus". "Queen of Rain", with its moving oboe breaks, takes time to grow, as does the string-laden "Crash! Boom! Bang!"
And it's not all great, either. "You Don't Understand Me", cowritten with hit-maker Desmond Child, is a weak song only just rescued by Fredriksson, while "Salvation" sounds like a Robbie Williams-style collage of other people's work. Fortunately, the two new tracks, "A Thing About You" (sung by songwriter Per Gessle) and "Breathe" are sweet and strong enough to repair the damage. One would be forgiven for thinking that a group which peaked ten years ago probably isn't all that good. However, when the peak is Joyride, it can easily be understood that it was a hard act to follow. While later efforts have proved almost as successful (especially 1994's Crash! Boom! Bang! and 2001's Room Service), nothing has yet managed to beat the thrashing guitars and catchy tunes of Joyride (1991). The singles are great, of course - Joyride, Fading Like A Flower (Every Time You Leave), (Do You Get) Excited? - but it is the other tracks which really carry this classy album: Keep On Knockin' On Every Door is as compelling as they come, with Perfect Day, the album's closing track, taking your breath away as Marie reaches every note pitch perfect - no mean feat given that this song ranges across three full octaves! This is, quite simply, a masterpiece, and nothing has yet come along to beat it, whether from Roxette or any other group. If you want the early 90s in a nutshell, look no further than Roxette's Joyride.

1. Harleys & Indians: a kinda weak song to start the album, but it's funny, it might grow on you quite well. 6/10
2. Crash! Boom! Bang!: probly my absolute fav Roxtune of all time. Marie's voice is so full of emotions, the instrumentation is perfect, the songwriting is excellent. An all-time classic for me. 10/10
3. Fireworks: a very catchy upbeat song, with lots of fun in the lyrics and great background vocals. I think it isn't weak to be a single, it's always been doing fine by me. 9/10
4. Run to You: a very romantic typical Roxette-ish song with strings arrangement and, again, Marie's incredible
singing (which is true throughout the album). 8/10
5. Sleeping in My Car: perhaps the heaviest rocker in Roxette history, constantly played on the radios. It blows you away, so powerful and rocking. Easy 10/10.
6. Vulnerable: nice song, but way too sappy for me. The strings sound good, though, and the whistling at the end is lovely. 6/10
7. First Girl on the Moon: very enjoyable little tune, Per and Marie's voice match perfectly, the harmonica adds a good folky feeling to it. 9/10
8. Place Your Love: one of my favs on this album, a wonderful acoustic piece with winds arrangement. 10/10
9. I Love the Sound of Crashing Guitars: good rocker tune, good guitars (well, the title speaks for itself) 8/10
10. What's She Like?: it's a kinda upbeat, but still painful and sad song. 7/10
11. Do You Wanna Go the Whole Way?: good upbeat song with incredibly catch strings, nice acoustic interlude by
Per. 9/10
12. Lies: a very fun song with some good ironic lyrics. 7/10
13. I'm Sorry: a typically '90s sounding ballad. It gets a lot of praise from other Roxfans, with my agreement. Roxette also recorded it on the album of their best ballads sung in Spanish (just to show how really great this song is). 9/10
14. Love Is All (Shine Your Light on Me): a soaring hymn to love, with some experimental features not so often used in popular music. Probly their longest song. 8/10
15. Go to Sleep: a good way to finish this great work of up to par pop-rock music. Beautiful ballad, can be taken as a lullaby as well. 9/10

Review by Jason Damas In the five years between Roxette's last album, Crash, Boom, Bang, and this, their "comeback" album, pop music had changed considerably. Crash, Boom, Bang failed, in part, because it was completely out of step with the times; in 1994 grunge, alternative, and rap ruled the charts, but Roxette always produced a relatively crisp and clean brand of pop/rock. In the five years since then, however, Brit-pop brought alternative rock back towards pop, electronica made dance music "cool" again, and bubblegum pop bands like the Spice Girls made unabashed pop fun again. Also, Per Gessle was fresh off from his very rock-oriented 1997 solo album. What resulted, then, was really rather ambitious. Have A Nice Day is an effort to encapsulate Roxette's trademark sound with Brit-pop and electronica, and, by gosh, it works. It's easily as good as any other Roxette album, save maybe only the stellar Joyride, and it shows that artistically the band is still on top. There's a good deal of emphasis on dance music here, but instead of the indistinguishable dance-pop of the band's early days, the beats seem to be borrowed straight from Fatboy Slim records. That, mixed with Gessle's gritty guitars, makes for a good deal of up-tempo rockers ("Crush on You," "7Twenty7," "Stars"). There are also some excellent pop songs, such as the single "Wish I Could Fly" and Gessle's unforgettable "You Can't Put Your Arms Around What's Already Gone," quite possibly the best song he's ever written. As is the case with any Roxette album, however, there are flaws, namely the presence of filler, mostly in the form of pace-destroying ballads. It's a small price to pay, however, for the return of one of the best mainstream pop bands in the past decade.

“Room Service”专辑延续昔日旧风，依然洋溢着无限激情，火爆的动感节奏与高亢动情的演唱交辉生映，全集开篇以具有与往日不同的电子合成旋律的“The Centre Of The Heart”开始，俨然具有Disco的风韵，一开口完全就是我们的老相识的Roxette，专辑歌曲多为急促快板的Roxette式的摇滚节奏，但也有象“Bring Me Down To My Knees”这样的慢板柔情歌曲，12首歌曲各具千秋，各自表达一种心境…十几年的黄金组合走过了灿烂辉煌的音乐历程，如今更显得老到成熟，音乐制作水准更是不同凡响。
If proof were needed that Roxette are the new ABBA, the lack of critical respect should be enough. Like Abba, Roxette is a masterful pop band (with just the right amount of kitsch in its armor) that routinely gets slagged off for lacking substance, whatever that may be. Room Service showcases a band at the top of its form with its feet firm on the pedal: this album is a case study in songcraft and pop smarts. With its na-na-na choruses and sparkly guitars, Room Service is also trademark Roxette, a mostly no-surprises package that divides its time between the soaring, emotive power ballads and the rife-with-hooks rock-dance stompers that the band pretty much took patents out on back in the '80s and '90s. This is a group that has gotten really good at what it is doing, without getting bored doing it. Result? Probably the best Roxette album since Joyride. Opening tracks "Real Sugar" and "The Centre of the Heart" with their now-rock, now-disco, always-pop attack are effortless up-tempo smashes that deliver an unstoppable one-two sucker punch. On the other hand, "Milk and Toast and Honey" and "Bringing Me Down to My Knees" are big-ticket slow-burners that are as good as adult contemporary gets. "Try (Just a Little Bit Harder)" burgles the "Just a little bit" refrain from Aretha Franklin's "Respect" and uses it to spike the sort of lush, half-pensive ballad that Roxette can toss off in its sleep by now. "You Make My Heart Go Pop" is a noisy, overproduced Top-Ten-here-we-come sparkler that'll zoom straight to the trash-magnet center of your brain and stick there for weeks on end. This album also shows a lyrically sharper Roxette, less eager than before to compromise the words for the hooks. Sure, they may occasionally slip into cliché and overt sentimentalism, but they're never less than tuneful. Both Per Gessle and Marie Frederiksson are in fine vocal form, especially Marie, who's equally proficient
whether she's doing elegiac laments or burning the house down. Room Service is an exciting, immediate, high-gloss pop gem that contains very little filler indeed. On it Roxette may not be making any great leaps forward, but when you're
in such a great place why bother moving?

Roxette's Ballad Hits demonstrates what it is that's made their band successful. It's a simple formula, but it works every time. After a quiet, exquisitely maudlin verse, Marie Fredriksson unleashes that shockingly big voice, the drums crash, huge guitars and keyboards attack and Roxette burst into another ludicrously memorable chorus. No one can match their jubilant revelling in the torment of love. From 1989 to 1991, they dominated the US charts with a string of super-dramatic hits. "Listen to Your Heart", "It Must Have Been Love", "Fading like a Flower", classics all, and they're all here, along with much else. For Roxette, ballads don't always follow the duo's own comic dictum--"Don't Bore Us, Get to the Chorus". "Queen of Rain", with its moving oboe breaks, takes time to grow, as does the string-laden "Crash! Boom! Bang!"
And it's not all great, either. "You Don't Understand Me", cowritten with hit-maker Desmond Child, is a weak song only just rescued by Fredriksson, while "Salvation" sounds like a Robbie Williams-style collage of other people's work. Fortunately, the two new tracks, "A Thing About You" (sung by songwriter Per Gessle) and "Breathe" are sweet and strong enough to repair the damage. Thus, despite the enormous power of those early smashes, the surprisingly varied Ballad Hits is consistently brilliant throughout. --Dominic Wills Ballad
